Volunteering FAQ's

How do I apply for a volunteer position?

Download our volunteer application, fill it out, and mail or FAX your completed form to us at:

AIDS Council of Northeastern New York
927 Broadway
Albany, NY 12207
FAX: 518.434.5786

How much training is involved when I sign up to volunteer with the AIDS Council?

All volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation that introduces them to the AIDS Council and covers basic, but important, information including HIV/AIDS confidentiality regulations and agency procedures. For some, extra training may be required depending on the volunteer assignment(s) chosen.

Do I need prior experience or special skills to volunteer for the AIDS Council?

For many volunteer positions, there is no prior experience required. We will provide you with the mandatory training and skills on the job.

How much time is involved?

It depends on your needs and availability. Some volunteers work every day, some once a week, some seasonally, and some for a very specific amount of time or on short term projects. We offer volunteers flexibility.  Most of our on-site volunteer activities take place during normal business hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We occasionally need volunteers for activities taking place on nights and weekends, especially with our fundraising events.

Why is it important for me to report my volunteer hours?

The various funding sources that support our volunteer program require the AIDS Council to maintain records of time worked by volunteers. Documentation of volunteer time is an essential for evaluating of the agency's volunteer services.

Do all AIDS Council volunteer opportunities interact directly with clients?

No. The majority of our volunteer opportunities are administrative assignments, and do not involve interacting directly with clients. However, working behind the scenes does have a great impact on the ability of the agency to provide quality services to its clients and the community.

Thank you, Volunteers!

The AIDS Council of Northeastern New York would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers for the work they do so unselfishly on behalf of our clients and the community we serve.
